Product details and core functions
The main task of this power supply is to provide precise current and voltage control for argon ion laser tubes. Due to the high voltage ignition and constant current maintenance required for gas lasers, this power supply adopts the classic “American industrial style” design, with a rigorous structure and high heat dissipation redundancy.
Working logic: It first generates high voltage through an internal high-voltage inverter transformer for “ignition” and breaks down gas; After successful ignition, switch to low-voltage high current mode to maintain plasma discharge, and adjust the current through a PID controller closed-loop to ensure stable laser output power.
Dual mode control: supports constant current mode and constant light intensity mode. In standby (IDLE) mode, it will automatically maintain a low constant power (about 40mA) for quick response; In the RUN state, output full power according to the set value.

Key technical parameters and specifications
Although it is difficult to obtain official data manuals, based on actual maintenance data, the core electrical characteristics are shown in the following table:
table
Parameter Category Specification Description Remarks
Input power AC 300V (rectified) main circuit plug input, modulated and applied to laser tube
Filament driven AC 3.5V-4V output from a large brown transformer for heating the cathode of a laser tube
Control interface DB25/dedicated black connector receives light intensity feedback signals, ignition commands, and interlock signals
The startup delay is about 35 seconds, including filament preheating and high-voltage triggering time
Standby power consumption~40 mA maintenance current in IDLE mode
Cooling method: forced air cooling with large capacity radiator and fan
Main application areas
This power supply is not a universal power supply, but a specialized component designed for specific high-precision equipment
Semiconductor wafer inspection: It is the core component of the KLA Surfscan 6XXX series (such as 6264) particle detector.
High precision optical measurement: used for AIT (Advanced Inspection Technology) machines.
Application scenario characteristics: The reason why argon ion lasers are used in conjunction with this power supply in these fields is because gas lasers have extremely narrow output bandwidth and excellent coherence, making them very suitable for high-sensitivity surface defect scanning and precision measurement.
Model analysis and maintenance suggestions
Model Description:
JDS Uniphase 2114B-30SLT is an original manufacturer model.
KLA Tencor is the user (system integrator) of this equipment, therefore it is often referred to as KLA in the second-hand market or spare parts list.
Common faults and maintenance:
According to past maintenance cases, this power supply is very durable and the transformer is rarely damaged. The common fault point is that the components in the auxiliary power supply circuit are damaged, resulting in the inability to start.
Safety reminder: The interior contains high-voltage capacitors and high-voltage inverter circuits, and involves laser radiation. Non professionals are not allowed to operate with live power or look directly at the laser output port.
